Workflow Script
There is plenty of useful cases where scripts can be of great value. It serves as hook to tap into the lifecycle of an issue.
It can be an isolated routine which just returns a value to be written back to the issue field, it can interact with the itracker service layer or call any external API such as a webservice.
When running on a public site, keep in mind that such scripts are very powerful and you should protect your system and database from being abused by any script injection. To disable scripts for the system configure allow_workflowscripts=false see Configuration. Consider setting up a proper security policy that suits your needs, in case activating the feature.
How Workflow Scripts Work
- Workflow scripts are created in the Admin section by clicking the 'Add' Button in the Workflow Admin page.
- To save a script, a unique name must be chosen, along with the desired script language.
- Syntax of the script must validate before it will be saved to the database.
- When a script has been created, it can be added to a project in th Project Admin page by clicking the Add Project Script button.
- Checked scripts will be added to the project, associated with the selected Field Id.
- Priority defines the order of execution of scripts within the same event.
- After execution of the script, the returned value will be set on the associated field.
Events
The events currently supported are:
- Populate (1): initialization of the issue-form before display
- Set Default (3): Called after Populate on creating an issue
- Validate (4): invoked on issue validation when creating or modifying
- Pre Submit (5): fires after validation, but before the data is committed to the database
- Post Submit (6): called after all data is submitted to the database for all fields
Scope
Running the script, some variables are available:
- event: event type-id
- fieldId: is a field id associated with event
- currentValue: is the value currently set (String, can be updated)
- currentErrors: is a container for occurred errors
- currentForm: is a form instance, holding values
- optionValues: list of key-value of value/label which are assignable
- return: if the script returns a String, it will be assigned to the field, otherwise currentValue.
Fields
- Status (built-in) fieldId: -3
- Resolution (built-in) fieldId: -4
- Severity (built-in) fieldId: -5
- Any custom-field of a project can be used
